Put Jarnama ads on your site
Attelkom Jarnama serves the banner ads seen across Irad's web, from 1990s dial-up pages to today's news sites. Add one script and a few empty boxes, choose a theme, and the network fills them.
Quick start
- Add the script once, near the end of the page, and give it the theme or themes your site should show.
- Put an empty
divwith classjarnamawherever an ad should go, with the size you want. - That's it. Each box gets a random ad of that size from your themes. If there's no matching ad, the box stays hidden.
<!-- an ad box: put as many as you like -->
<div class="jarnama" data-size="728x90"></div>
<!-- once per page, before </body> -->
<script src="https://ads.attelkom.net/serve.js"
data-theme="current local" defer></script>One box, a different theme
A box can ask for its own themes instead of the page's. This puts a scam ad in the sidebar of an otherwise respectable page:
<div class="jarnama" data-size="300x250" data-theme="sketchy"></div>Styling
The script puts a link and an image inside the box and leaves the look to you. A label and centring are usually enough:
.jarnama { margin: 1.5rem auto; text-align: center; }
.jarnama:empty { display: none; }
.jarnama::before { content: "Advertisement"; display: block;
font: 11px sans-serif; text-transform: uppercase; color: #888; }
.jarnama img { max-width: 100%; height: auto; }Make your code
Pick a size and the themes you want, and copy the result into your page.
Sizes
Use one of these in data-size. The common ones in Irad were 468×60 in the dial-up years, 728×90 and 240×400 in the Flash years, and 728×90 and 300×250 now.
Shown at half size. 88×31 is the little button size of 1990s webrings and counters, shown full size.
Themes
A theme decides which ads a box can show. Pick one era theme for the look your site should have, then add the types of advertiser you want. Separate codes with spaces, for example data-theme="dialup local".
| Code | What it is | Typical advertisers | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
dialup | 1996–2004 look: small GIFs, blinking, jagged text, fake Windows boxes, "CLICK HERE!!!" | Attelkom dial-up cards and the first GSM network, computer shops, internet cafés, cowboy hats, Swift Hooves | Webring pages, old forums, archived sites |
flash | 2004–2014 look: glossy buttons, starbursts, light sweeps, smiling stock families | Attelkom 3G, Talasbank credit, car dealers, flats, Iradiya flights | Mid-2000s sites, anything meant to feel dated but mainstream |
current | 2015–now look: flat, one big number, no blinking | Attelkom 4G, Talasbank app, Jılmay, IradOne, supermarkets | IradOne, the Talas Herald, modern sites |
state | Government notices, plain and earnest | Department of Public Information, the Gendarmerie, the statistics office | IradOne, government pages |
local | Small businesses, cheap and text-heavy | Wedding halls, kymyz farms, saddlers, taxis, driving schools | News sites, classifieds, small business pages |
diaspora | For Iradis abroad, mostly in English | Money transfers, flights via Istanbul, Chicago lawyers and parishes | Iradi-American sites |
offnet | Ads Jarnama itself refuses, served by foreign networks | Tulparcoin, VPNs, Kazakh SIM cards, satellite phones, FreeIrad.org | Opposition and exile sites, Tulpar's pages |
sketchy | Scams and shady offers, kept suggestive at most | Betting, casinos, miracle pills, diets, crypto doublers, "you won!" boxes | Pirate sites, forums, shady corners of the web |
dialup, flash, current) set the look; the others set the kind of advertiser. A box shows ads from its era, and only the advertiser types you ask for: dialup local gives 1990s ads from big companies and small businesses but no scams, and adding sketchy lets the scams in too. A type on its own, like sketchy, takes ads from any era. IradOne uses current state; the Talas Herald uses current local state.All ads

Adding new ads
Ads are listed in campaigns.json. Each entry gives the file, size, themes, a link and alt text, and can have start and end dates or "active": false to pause it. The starter ads are built by tools/make_starters.py; see the repository for the toolkit.
